American Pride, 2017 recap
Fiscal year ended 12/28/17.
Stock price as of close of market 1/15/16 was $27.99.
Total revenue was $54.75B. Profit was $3.19B or $1.48 per share.
For the upcoming fiscal year, which will end 12/27/18, American Pride is estimating profit of $3.49B, or $1.62 a share, on revenues of $60.77B. Next year's fiscal year will have 52 weeks; same as this past year.
Thoughts about the future:
Our sports and lifestyle network will still be in its early stages, but is gaining more respect daily in the industry.
We have 1298 Freedom theaters with 19122 screens. Of those, about 350 are Freedom Night Owls, which have premium seating and a full menu. All have a Hooters Limited in the lobby, as a meeting place and lounge for before and after the movie. Building 32-40 screen theater and entertainment complexes in metro areas, near connecting interstates. Comedy club, Hooters Live, restaurants, batting cages, fitness clubs, tennis/racquetball courts, walking/running tracks.
We have about 601 Liberty theaters and 4508 screens at the end of the year, as we run about 99% of the "budget cinemas" in the USA. About 340 of those are Liberty Night Owls "cinema cafes" are open, in the upper Midwest, southern US, with expansion into the Northeast last year and in progress. Avengers: Infinity War will be one of the largest opening weekends in movie history, and will likely end up in the top ten of all time. Adding this to Black Panther, our movie business will boom in 2018.
American Capitalist financial services now have 88 total offices. Began with $40M in invested funds. $591B in invested funds as of 12/28/17 . Now a prime player in 401K/403B investing, as well as heavily into the niche market of self-investing. Will continue to grow through success and possible acquisition.
American Security Preservation, mainly involved in life insurance, annuities, and wealth preservation. Annual premiums of $12.75B.
American Motivation looks to help people make the most of what they have and meet their goals. Operates during the school year, Sep-May, Tue-Thurs, during non-holiday weeks. We expect to have 48 events this fiscal year. Focus is on filling arenas
White Castle has 711 locations, sales up 2.7%.
Biggby Coffee has 722 outlets and same store sales increased 2.9%.
Hooters has 754 locations worldwide, with 455 in the USA. Sales were up 5.9%.
Hooters Live now has 72 locations, all in the USA, mostly in high population suburban markets. Live is a destination for live music 6-7 nights a week, and pool/darts/volleyball/softball/poker/trivia leagues and tournaments.
Hooters hotel in Vegas significant growth in poker and casino business, and headliners in arena.
Krispy Kreme has 529 locations worldwide. Sales were up 1.5%.
Comedy Grill is now in 194 locations and is the largest comedy club by locations in the USA.
AAA baseball team, in Lake Mills, WI, named Madison Mosquitoes, affiliate of Brewers. Includes Leinenkugel Park, the crown jewel of minor league baseball stadiums, 10K capacity.
Twelve team women's pro soccer league, WCS, which began play in 2013, holds at 16 teams.
Trump Tower Hooters Atlantic City gained revenue last year, mainly due to increased seminar and convention business. Gaming up 3%.
Hostess brands continues to do well.
Began Basset Hound moonshine mixers, now available everywhere.
Started Sports and Leisure TV, a four channel pack, in 2014. Won rights to broadcast NFL, NBA, MLS, and WCS, and purchased CBS Sports Network, and The Tennis Channel, and will maintain those commitments.
Red Lobster sales up 4.5%, though they had nowhere to go but up.
Purchased Homestyle Dining, which is Ponderosa and Bonanza. Renamed all to Ponderosa. Sales up 3.9%. Increases in home catering.
We plan on continuing to grow and be a successful and profitable company. We always have been a debt free company, as well as a charitable member of the community, state, and country. We do not plan to change that aspect of our business. Each of our establishments have a planned budget for special events for good causes that they draw from that does not affect their bonuses, if applicable. Our success is a direct correlation of our associates, and we are happy they continue to succeed with us.
Because of our expansion into TV, snacks, and moonlight mixers in 2013/2014, we are looking to sit back and grow our business in 2015, though we are always open to adding profitable companies with room for growth. We are currently sitting on $11.52B in cash, which we utilize rather than borrowing when we wish to expand or build.
We have rewarded our associates with a gift of stock since our inception. Below is how much they would have accumulated if they had been with us since 2002, both part-time and full-time:
PT: 20 in '02 & '03 (now 540 each), 20 in '04 & '05 (now 180 each), 20 in '06-'09 (now 60 each), 50 in '10-'14--1930 shares, 50 in 15/16, 2030, split made it 6090 shares, 100 in 17= 6190
FT: 50 in '02 & '03 (now 1350 each), 50 in '04 & '05 (now 450 each), 50 (now 150 each) in '06-'09, 100 in '10-'14--4700 shares, 100 in 15/16, 4900; split made it 14700, 250 in 17= 14950
Major shareholders include Bryan Clark, who originally founded the company, who owns 322.8M shares of common stock (of 3.24B issued), about 10% of the company. Mr. Clark's shares are in a trust as he holds political office.
We have 48K FT associates and 256K PT associates.

We went ahead and bumped Kevin up then. $17 to start. Jay and Steve both say several people have taken notice and have asked if supervisor and other promotions are in the cards. They said they told them to leave me a note. Jay said it's quite apparent everyone is on their best behavior and he has not noticed a single person being late or "disappearing" the entire week. I pointed out no one had missed a shift all week. Dee told me she was asked, "If we had apps sitting there, why was no one hired until now?" She said she told them there was a new sheriff in town and things were changing for the better. :)
Also, associates have been overheard wondering why we never used all the registers when Chuck was here. I opened the satellites last night and today. That's 10!!! The world didn't end or anything!!
Dee has told me she appreciates the positive reinforcement in front of everyone else. She admits that she has felt all alone because she was the "new girl" and Chuck did not give her any leash, just treated her like a supervisor, basically. I told her we'd make a couple more schedules together and then I'd get out of her way. She seems plenty capable, and works hard. Heck, all the managers do, Kevin included. They are not strong at mentoring or following up because they're used to doing all the grunt work themselves. Jay has said a couple times, "See, this is what managing is. It's delegating and being proactive."
All right, headed out soon. Let me know if you need anything else. See ya next week.
5350 attendance, $6.80 average concession sale.
May 20 update
Up to 39, so we are staffed and will be scheduling based on ability and availability. We talked about this during our brief meeting yesterday and "forced rank" all the non management folks. All of us had 3 of our people in the bottom 10, so they will immediately be getting fewer hours and monitored closely. No room for weakness here.
4359 attendance last week, 8.22 concessions average, 39 staff.
Enjoy your weekend. I am going to be here SUN/MON and an off TUE/WED.
June 2nd
I am gone from SAT-THU then, using 4 VAC. I entered it in, 1 for this week, 3 for next.
5576 attendance, 39 staff, 6.56 average concessions, 62955 bo, 35580 concessions.
We lost one and Jodi hired one, one of the mentally disabled youngsters who will work with a coach. 4 days a week, WED-SAT, 1045-245/3 each day. We do not think he has the capability to work with money at all, so he will just be doing maintenance. He is extremely excited and is very friendly, so we expect him to be able to say hi and smile at our guests. The one thing we were a bit concerned about is that we will close the ladies room when he's cleaning in there, but we do have that family restroom right there too. His coach said that she was surprised fast food places were so unwilling to give him a chance, but the ones that did had to have 7 days a week availability and she has to turn in her schedule a month in advance. And yes, she will supervise and clean as well, so we think we'll get 6-7 hours work from them even if he's a little slower paced. He starts next week, but we took a pic of him in his AMC shirt today and sent it to the coach so they can put it on social media.
I was disappointed we didn't break our attendance mark since I've been here, but just missed it. Jay pointed out our free admissions were way down, end of school year and few have kids. Maybe this week. I challenged the team and Dee especially to make sure concessions don't fall. Had all 6 stands open last night and today after 2. Getting to be 2nd nature. I still recall that first FRI/SAT I was here, kids that had been here since last NOV had never seen the satellites open. :)
Enjoy your weekend and week Bob. Back a week from today.
39 staff, 6488 attendance, 6.50 average concession.
June 17th
Not much to discuss as we just talked THU. All 4 members of the management team are caught up on paperwork and ready if the opportunity arises. I talked to all in a one on one and told them I want to recommend them and what they need to do and continue to do for me to be able to do so. Kitchen open until midnight FRI/SAT, 11pm SUN-THU. Bar is packed at 8pm as I get ready to head out. Continue to concentrate on customer service and making it easy to buy food and snacks. Enjoy your weekend.
6039 attendance, 38 staff, $9.65 average concessions.
Good week overall, kids really sparking the concessions it would seem. Had a couple $100 sales with larger families, I had never seen that before.
We scheduled light this week because we think we'll be down 20% or so. Also lost a couple crew members, but Jodi will fill if needed. With students being out of school and added availability, I told her not to add just to add and discuss with me. MI7 and IJ both looking to be huge. Jay and Steve both said we always have huge numbers with blockbuster action films, Jay says he always sees his friends during those and he hardly ever sees people he knows, as they are not regular moviegoers.
I continue to talk with corporate about auditorium choices, especially for hits with multiple screens versus others with limited screens. The Flash had over 750 seats available THU night, both openers had less than 100. Not finding a lot of concern or anyone willing to explain how these are decided.
Enjoy your weekend, sir.
Dee will be running all day to day operations.

Happy Thanksgiving to those that believe. For me, it's a workday. The theater was at 95% capacity yesterday, first show started at 930am, last show ended at 1245am. Today...looks to be busier. We are fully staffed, though we do have several regulars that have THU off weekly that are not working today. We have donuts (thanks Dunkin), a variety of apps in the break room, and lunch/dinner being delivered from Del Taco and Pardon My Cheesesteak for everyone making the holiday better for our guests!!
--I am a bit limited by company policy at sharing financials. I will leave it at that. I am the GM at the AMC 24 screen theater that has one entrance inside of Disney. We are always one of AMC's top 20 locations, but because of the tourists visiting for the holiday, we are top 5 this weekend.
--More restaurants are open here because of the huge tourism market. I had at least 20 places to choose from on Door Dash when I ordered food for lunch.
--We have about 70-75 (not sure of the exact number, gained and lost a couple college students in the last week that are on the 3 semester set up) associates, and 55 are working today. Mostly in 3 shifts, 9-230/4, 12-7, and 6-close. I got here at 830 and will go home somewhere between 8 and 10. It's a challenging weekend because every day will be like this thru SAT, and SUN will be 75-90% of this. Won't slow down until MON.

My contact info is at the end of this, but my responses may be delayed. If you need an immediate response, continue to use Velma, as you have since TUE. She will keep me up to date.
Two quick notes...we have a district meeting WEDFEB12 at the AMC corporate offices, so save the date. GM's are required to attend. We will have a dinner the night before as well, though that is not mandatory. I do not plan on having more than one in person district meeting a year, so please do all you can to attend. If unable to, please send someone in your place and let me know why when I return to work FEB7. Hotel, dinner, and meeting info will be sent FEB7.
We will go over my expectations at the meeting and during my theater visits. In the meantime, simply do what you have been doing...schedule to plan, or as close to it as you can. 1.012 is our current labor for 2025. Do the best you can every day and I look forward to meeting you in a couple weeks.
I am very excited. I expect success for each and every one of our theaters and the district as a whole in 2025 and beyond. Thank you for your time and make today the best you possibly can!!
Bryan Price
We will go into more detail at the meeting, but I expect all nine theaters at or below 1.005 labor each week. That gives everyone a bit of wiggle room, in case your projections are a bit off, which will happen from time to time. If you have a special circumstance, such as training in new crew members, that would be something to email me about in advance, and we will talk about it on FRI.
No one knows your theaters better than you, so I will not be overriding your forecasts or ordering you to cut hours. We will go over your results, in 2024 and so far in 2025, and how we plan to increase concession sales while hitting 1.005 labor. We will massage and caress our schedules to achieve max bonuses. My job is to set you and your theaters up for success. I know you as GM's depend on your bonus for the financial security of yourself and your families. My top priority is to have 9 of 9 theaters achieve a bonus for 2025...hopefully, all 9 will max out.
Thank you for your continued efforts. Expect great things, and plan for success every day!!

We have about 448 Liberty theaters and 3224 screens at the end of the year, as we run about 97% of the "budget cinemas" in the USA. About 240 of those are Liberty Night Owls "cinema cafes" are open, in the upper Midwest, southern US, with expansion into the Northeast last year and in progress. Star Wars 7, The Force Awakens, was as close to a printing press as we have ever seen. It likely is responsible for about 1% of the profit for 2015, and that was taken into account when estimating next year's growth...no similar blockbuster will appear until 2017
