BC.COM 12/27
I am writing this having just left the democracy of Iraq. Cool.
News and notes, having just surfed the internet for a couple hours.
---Some poker players may quit playing the WPT. I have signed every agreement and have barely read one. I sign several contracts a week, and have little regret about it. I admit, from what I have seen, there are very few "pro" poker players out there, and many that are do not have big names. Many "pros" made their money elsewhere, such as in the tech spike, or in real estate. Let's not forget, dozens of pro players are very deep in debt, from being idiots. I just play as a hobby, having just read a couple books on the game (and none on tourney play), and have cashed in 5 of 15 WSOP tourneys I've entered, and 3 of 5 WPT events. It's a game of math and common sense in the long run. I have to question whether most of the players who are "afraid to sign the release" are simply tired of losing, or are out of money.
---Many people wondered how I could travel with Mr. Franken, whose views, dare I say it, are a bit odd. Al is a good guy, a funny guy, and like many liberals, believes in the same things as myself, but we differ on how to accomplish it. I think the best way to allow a lower class citizen to buy a home is to keep the economy strong, not give him a government grant.
---King Kong = huge money loser. 3 hours is just too long. Even a spectacular film like Saving Private Ryan could lose 15 minutes. Allowing yourself to make your movie marketable is what you owe your company and crew. You can always have your "cut" on the DVD.
